The February 25 meeting of the Pottsville Rotary Club was held jointly with the Anthracite Chapter of the PA Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE).
PSPE State President Dan Cook (alfred benesch & co.) recognized Engineers Week and shared a proclamation from Governor Shapiro. Jennifer Kowalonek (alfred benesch & co.) presented on the waterline utility relocation tied to the current Route 61 reconstruction from St. Clair to Frackville.
Here’s what that means for Schuylkill County:
• $115 million Route 61 reconstruction (completion: 2029)
• Largest non-interstate project in PennDOT District 5
• Largest highway project in Schuylkill County history
• $6 million waterline relocation (95% funded by PennDOT)
• 20,000 feet of new 10”–20” waterline
• 2 SCMA bridges replaced
• Verizon lines relocated
• Property to support the future Schuylkill River Greenway Trail
The project was completed on budget with minimal change orders. Work was led by SCMA and Benesch, with local contractors LEW Site and Heim Construction. The team received an Engineering Excellence Award (Water Resources) from ACEC/PA.
Thank you to Dan, Jennifer, and the members of the PA Society of Professional Engineers for attending and for an interesting presentation.
