Rotary Club of Pottsville ~ #5319 District 7370
About Us

Rotary began as an idea more than 100 years ago. Today, Rotary flourishes worldwide with 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Rotarians are members of Rotary clubs. Rotary clubs belong to Rotary International. To become a Rotarian, you must be invited to join a Rotary club by a member of that club.

Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities while greatly enriching their personal and professional lives. A Rotary club contains a diverse group of professional leaders from the community that the club serves.

A qualified candidate for Rotary club membership is an adult of good character and good business, professional, or community reputation. The candidate fits one of the following criteria:

  • Holds or has held an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession
  • Serves or has served as a community leader
  • Is a Rotary Foundation alumni or alumnus

T he United States was in the grip of the Great Depression when Herbert J. Taylor, the newly appointed president of a nearly bankrupt Chicago cookware company, penned what became known as The Four-Way Test. Today, the simple test serves as an ethical compass for Rotarians everywhere.

The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and  BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
